1) Inquiry allows for ownership of the learning for students in that it relies on students using what they already know about a concept and encourages them to develop and investigate questions that have for a particular topic. Students are more likely to be invested in what they are learning as they ask their own questions about a topic, leading to them taking ownership of their learning.
2) Inquiry displays respect and honor of the learner by validating the questions the learning might have and providing the opportunity to research, investigate, and answer those particular questions.
Sean, good points. I agree that inquiry based learning encourages students to develop important research skills that allow them to learn more about topics and ideas that interest them. Ultimately this is what every teacher wants their students to learn so that they can be lifelong learners.
ReplyDeleteSean, I agree. I feel strongly about inquiry because it allows a student to be scientific. It gives them ownership because they start the activity or ideally, the unit, investigating on their own.
ReplyDeleteCould not agree with you more the student do take ownership of their learning. They have to rely on previous knowledge as a starting point to further inquirer..
